LOPDELL HOUSEUPSTAIRS GALLERYEXHIBITION

Temporary art installation returns to Lopdell Precinct to celebrate 10 years

Locals might remember that in 2014, reflective road signs in the shape of Birdpeople perched on the architecture of our iconic Lopdell House and the construction site of Te Uru, as well as around Titirangi Village.

This December the Birdpeople are back around the building's exterior to mark the 10th anniversary of their last congregation here.

Conference of the Birds 2024

On show Friday 6 December to Sunday 12 January

A new species of bird has been discovered inhabiting the grounds of Lopdell House. Roughly the same size as a human, their colouration ranges from yellow to orange and responds to light, reflecting the passing glow of headlights.

Over the summer months of 2014, in a multi-site installation, the flock visually connected the construction site at Lopdell House to the temporary Lopdell House Gallery off-site premises in New Lynn, drawing attention to and promoting the development of the new arts hub in Titirangi.

Now, with support from The Upstairs Gallery, artist Delicia Sampero’s Conference of the Birds is back to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Lopdell Precinct.

To learn more about the Conference of the Birds all are welcome to come to the artist talk in the Seminar Room at Lopdell House on Sunday 8 December at 2pm, or to visit Delicia's website.
