EVENTMCCAHON HOUSEWORKSHOP

McCahon House Trust

In December 2006, McCahon House welcomed its first resident artist, Judy Millar. Over the past two decades, the organisation has continued to host artists at Parehuia, offering space, time, and support to develop their practice.

In 2026, McCahon House will deliver its regular programme celebrating current artists in residence—Zena Eliott, Linda Va’aelua, and Conor Clarke. As part of its 20th anniversary, a series of special events will also be presented to mark this significant milestone.

Abstract Motif workshop with artist Linda Va’aelua

Saturday 6 June, 12–1:30 pm
Parehuia Studio, 69 Otitori Bay Road, Titirangi

Linda’s work reflects her mixed Samoan and Scottish heritage, connecting themes of wayfinding, navigation, and evolving cultural identity. In celebration of Samoan Language Week, participants will gain insight into her distinctive style, which combines traditional motifs and materials with bold imagery and vibrant colour.

Inspired by this approach, participants will create a personalised pattern representing their own whakapapa using craft materials. This hands-on workshop encourages exploration of abstraction and storytelling.

Please note: Spaces are limited and RSVP is required. Email mccahon@mccahonhouse.org.nz to register.

Participant information:
Participants must be confident using scissors and craft materials. The workshop is not suitable for children under 10. Confirmed attendees will receive prompts beforehand to reflect on their heritage.
