'AMRUM' (M)

We don't often show Hollywood thrillers, but the reviews for The Weight have been outstanding and Rialto has given us early access to this gripping new release.
Set in Oregon in 1933, Samuel Murphy is torn from his daughter and sent to a brutal work camp. When the ruthless Warden Clancy offers him the chance of early release in exchange for smuggling gold through dangerous wilderness, betrayal within the crew forces Murphy to question how far he will go to see his child again.
Starring Ethan Hawke, Julia Jones and Russell Crowe, The Weight turns a stripped-down tale of desperation into a hard-hitting thriller, elevated by Hawke's magnetic performance. This is the kind of action-adventure Hollywood used to make but rarely does anymore.
