TOUCH (M)
2024 | 2h | Romance, Drama | Iceland, USA, UK
Friday 14 February, 10.30am, 5.30pm & 8.15pm
A romantic and thrilling story that spans several decades and continents, Touch follows one widower's emotional journey to find his first love who disappeared 50 years ago, before his time runs out. This film is about re-connection and coming to terms with the past and present. There are some solid performances and gracefulness in how the film darts between 20th-century London and the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Touch is a profoundly moving drama, a deeply emotional film about lost love and regret. The film spans several decades and intimately involves us in a beautiful story. Made by Icelandic director Baltasar Kormakur it's actually primarily set in London. In the current day widower Kristofer has failing health so he decides to return to London to hopefully find a lost love. The film expertly takes us back to the late 60s as young Kristofer is studying in London. He becomes disillusioned with study and impulsively quits and takes a job at a Japanese restaurant. There he not only becomes immersed in Japanese culture but falls in love with the restaurant owner's daughter. What becomes a burgeoning love affair is abruptly interrupted when Miko and her father flee London suddenly. In the present day Kristofer finds a contact and discovers they returned to Japan. To finish his quest he flies out immediately. This tender and touching film could easily become maudlin and sentimental but its true heart shines through. It's a sweeping and beautifully observed film about human love and connection." - Rotten Tomatoes
